Goalie Framework
Each team’s goalie situation is unique, and the following policy is designed to support both dedicated full-time goalies and foster interest and development in skaters interested in trying the position.
Full-Time Goalie
- Commitment: Will play goalie exclusively for the season.
- Equipment: Players must provide and maintain their own goalie gear.
- Team Placement: Will be evaluated during tryouts with other full-time goalies and placed accordingly.
- Game Allocation: Will receive priority and play more games in net than skaters interested in playing goalie.
Dual Position: Skater Interested in Playing Goalie
- Commitment: Open to playing both skater and goalie positions during the season. This applies to skaters interested in playing goalie and goalies interested in skating out when not scheduled in net. This position requires players to register as a skater.
- Equipment: Delano Area Youth Hockey Association goalie gear is available for shared use through the 12U and PeeWee levels, if needed.
- Team Placement: Will be evaluated during tryouts as a skater and placed accordingly.
- Game Allocation: Will play some games in net, but fewer than full-time goalies.
Goalie Plans
Once the season’s teams are finalized, the Association’s Goalie Coordinator will develop a goalie plan for each travel hockey team. The purpose of the goalie plan is to ensure consistent support for all goalies in our association and set clear expectations, such as dedicated training, playing time and game management, off-ice development, and coaching support. These plans will be clearly communicated with each player, family, and coach. The coach and level leader are responsible for executing the goalie plan.
