NON-TRAVEL HOCKEY
Ages
We’ve created a helpful chart below to guide you based on age and experience. While most skaters will fall within their age range, we prioritize placing each child in a group that is both supportive and challenging. For example, a brand-new 8-year-old skater may be placed with other beginners.
We welcome open communication—please reach out with any questions or concerns. All age groups receive equal ice time, skill focus, and coach-to-player development planning.
Level Guide | ||
Level | Birthday Range | Prior Years in Hockey |
Girls 6U (former intro/termite) | After 6/1/2018 | 1 |
Girls 8U | 6/1/2016 – 5/31/2018 | 2+ |
Tiger 1 Boys and Girls (former intro/termite) | After 6/1/2018 | 0 |
Tiger 2 (former mite) | After 6/1/2018 | 1 |
Tiger 3/4 (former mite) | 6/1/2016 – 5/31/2018 | 2+ |
Girls 6U and 8U will skate together unless group sizes require adjustments. New girl skaters will likely begin in Tiger 1, alongside other beginners.

What does a typical week look like for this age group?
Flexible and fun! Your child can skate 1 to 3 days per week, regardless of age or level. If a specific time doesn’t work for your family, please reach out—we’re happy to help find a group that fits.
Our focus is on skill development and enjoyment:
Wednesdays & Saturdays: Age-specific skill development following the ADM model
Sundays: Cross-ice (small area) games—a great opportunity for families to cheer on their young skaters!
Frequently Asked Questions
My child has never played hockey—how do we get equipment?
Great question! If your child is new to hockey, we recommend registering for our Intro to Hockey Camp in September and October.
Cost: $150 (includes full equipment for the season). Free if no equipment is needed.
If your child decides not to continue after the camp, simply return the equipment and receive a $150.00 refund.
What is the development model for this age group?
We focus on three key areas:
1. Skating Skills
2. Hockey-Specific Skills – puck handling, passing, and competing
3. Fun & Friendship
Our goal is to create a positive, community-based environment where kids develop skills while building friendships with classmates and teammates. Please don’t worry about which group or team your child is placed in—we value every skater equally, whether they attend once or three times per week.
Will there be any competition events for this age group?
Yes! Our older groups (Girls 8U and Tiger 2/3/4) will participate in 1–2 scrimmages and jamborees, including our annual Puck in the Park event.
Remember, non-travel hockey is all about helping our youngest Tigers fall in love with the game, while developing skills and friendships that will serve them well as they grow. While competition is an important part of development at all ages, at this age it is built into our weekly practice and Sunday evening in games.
